A healthy diet places an emphasis on fruit, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat (or fat-free milk), lean meats and fish and beans and is low in trans fats, saturated fats, cholesterol, added salt and added sugar. Most importantly a healthy diet does not exclude any one food group. Our bodies can only function properly with a balanced diet - and your diet, therefore, needs to include carbohydrates and fats.

However - be sure that you are consuming the right kind and quantity of fat and keep your carbohydrate intake in line with your body's needs. Try to keep your carbohydrate intake to no more than 65% of your caloric intake. Diets that cut out carbohydrates are starving your body and your brain of essential fuel. Your brain and body require the right amount of carbohydrates to function adequately.
